Revere Beach, just 6 miles north of Boston, is America’s first and oldest
public beach. It also happens to be home to one of the most impressive
summertime events in the country - The International Sand Sculpting
Festival.
Every year, sculptors from around the globe assemble on Revere Beach to
compete for the grand prize, and coveted title of being the year’s best of
the best in sand sculpting.
Utilizing more than 12-tons of sand trucked in just for this event, artists will
have for 4 days to create their sandy masterpieces.
This year’s theme is “Wonders of the World.” Artists can choose any
design they wish to portray the theme, but are not permitted to use
anything other than water and sand for the build.
The sculptures are truly magnificent. The complexity of the designs, the
details worked just perfectly into the sand, and the shear magnitude of the
sculptures themselves are difficult to imagine until you’ve seen them first
hand.
This year’s festival runs July 22 - July 24. It is a FREE event with live
music, food vendors, and fireworks.
